Contemporary Approach to Working with People

About

Home Info

Hello. Thank you for visiting, being curious and exploring. These pages give a brief flavour of me and how I work.

Born in Wales in the mid 1960s and now living in Wiltshire since 1990s.

My working life has spanned many areas of health and social care across public, private and charity sectors. From clinical, learning & development, management and leadership. Gaining qualifications and training in psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, coaching and behaviour change.

Bringing these together to provide a comprehensive and expert-by-experience service that can be described as Personal Consultancy.

Specializing in Contemporary Approach - applying real therapy and psychological knowledge in helping and supporting people

Mental Health & Wellbeing

This is an area of most complexity and controversy. There are many ways of looking at and describing what mental health and wellbeing are.

What most of us know is anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD  and other medical terms for the way behave, feeling and think.

No way of thinking, feeling or behaving is unusual to the person who is experiencing this. Nor should their experience be judge and assigned as wrong or bad.

My role working with others experiences is across the range of mental health and wellbeing presentations. The Contemporary Approach is about understanding and looking at how the experience is processed - thought about. What is needed to support and help.

Adults

Being a grown-up is quite a complicated role in itself, let along having a job, looking after children, being in a relationship. And then life sometimes just chucks things at us.

Death of someone close. Bullied at work. Overwhelming sense of being overloaded, fearful, having to be successful. We are more easily able to access alcohol, gamble, or engine in other health risk behaviours. We could become obsessive about things. Some have the pressures or horrors of work all too obviously.

My role is help you make sense of these, reduce the pains, burdens and discomforts. There may be stuff you just want to achieve or get better at.

IAG

There are times when all that is needed is an help in understandings what is going on, who to ask or where to go for useful information.

IAG is just that. This service is simply about useful information, advice and guidance.

Asking questions and getting answers that make sense for you.

This is neither therapy nor coaching just a simple service to cut through the confusing questions about work-life experiences.

Children & Young People

As parents, teachers or those working with children and young people we often see disturbed or disturbing behaviour. We may label this as being shy, unconfident, boisterous, having anxiety, depression, etc.

Much of what this behaviour is about is less of a label and more about they see themselves, others and the world around them.

My role is to support them to build resilience, an understanding and sense of themselves. This brings confidence and skills to help them grow and evolve into the person they want to be.

Sessions & Meetings

Generally psychotherapy and counselling are considered for those with 'mental health or emotional issues'. And coaching is considered for those who have a specific goal, or performance need.

That there needs to be lots of sessions in both case.

The Contemporary Approach is different, designed to match what you want and need. Built on the premise that what you do and the purpose of what you do is about you - your psychological processing.

Working through this enables you to get your wants and needs met.

The Contemporary Approach is an agreed way of working between you and me.

Training & Workshops

Experts in human behaviour - the feeling, thinking and behaving do not exist. No one person can know everything. And I certainly do not.

As professionals we have a deeper and broader understanding. For me that is within my specialist field of being human.

There are many who continue to promote the myths and falsities of human behaviour; or apply non-evidenced thinking. This is unhelpful.

My role in training and development is about identifying what is the need, researching the truth of what we know and then delivering realistic, practical and usable fashion.
